Holiday Donation Drive 2011

Running now through the end of January!

We can all agree cancer is bad. It ravages the body and wrecks lives, but there are treatments now and even cures for many types of cancer. However, even after the body is cleared of this terrible disease there is often a residual effect that can be equally as devastating: financial hardship.

Many cancer patients and their families face the financial aftermath of a battle with cancer long after the disease is defeated. It is for this reason that Catch A Break was founded. For the simple purpose of giving a break to these people that have already survived so much.

To fight cancer and win is an amazing achievement, but many patients emerge from one battle only to find themselves struggling with the financial turmoil that cancer leaves in it's wake. It is for this reason that I am asking for your help.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. I survived. I was lucky to have good insurance and the financial resources to see it through, but as I went through treatment I was surrounded by those less fortunate. They worried what the disease was doing to their bodies and at the same time worried about their shattered finances. No job. No insurance. No resources.

The goal of our organization is not to try to restore their lives to their pre-cancerous condition, but simply to help them "Catch a Break". That means paying a utility bill to keep the lights on, paying for a prescription or just giving them a gift card to a local super market.

Last year we helped 26 families and raised over $7000, and this year we hope to do a little better. With your help we can. We have teamed up with Lawrence Memorial Hospital to make giving even easier. Please make a tax deductible contribution and help someone "Catch a Break". We are not looking for large donations (although we will take those too), but a little help goes a long way in these people's lives.
